The Difference Between Ballet and Jazz Pirouettes

Get your own pair of Apolla Shocks:

Hey dancers! Today I am breaking down the difference between ballet and jazz pirouettes. Ballet turns have a turned out passé, a prep in fourth position, and land in a lunge. Jazz turns have a parallel passé, a prep with the back heel lifted en demi-pointe, and can land in various ways. After you know which dance turn is which, I walk you through a pirouette tutorial, so you can have stronger, controlled, and precise rotations. This beginner ballet and beginner jazz how-to is a good refresher for basic dance technique and can be used for any dance curriculum, whether you’re a dance team member or a self-taught dancer learning from home. Be sure to watch my warm up and flexibility stretch videos to get your muscles warm and ready to move. Dance spins take a lot of core strength and body awareness, so any of my dance conditioning exercises in other videos will help you strengthen your abs, arms, glutes, and back. Happy turning babes! xo.
