How to fix Pec Strains – chest strain / pectoralis minor / pectoralis major strengthening exercises

A pec strain, also known as a chest strain, is a muscle tear of the pectoralis minor and/or pectoralis major muscles. As a result of this injury, movements such as doing push ups, bench press, or dips can trigger pain into the shoulder or chest. Pec strains come in three different grades ranging from grade 1 strains to grade 3 strains. Most injuries involve the pecs are grade 1 strains.

Grade 1 pectoralis major / minor strains typically recover anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks (sometimes it can last up to 6 weeks) with proper exercise rehabilitation. While rest can make the muscle temporarily feel better, complete rest is not recommended as it can cause the muscle to lose strength. As a result of the weakened state from resting for too long, delayed progress in your regular activities can occur (as you’ll no longer be strong enough to bench press the same weight, or do the same number of repetitions).

Today’s video goes over how to stimulate recovery while maintaining as much strength as possible during the recovery process.
