Sword fight in Kalaripayattu is known as PULI ANKAM. The word Puli ankam is derived from two words puli and ankam. Puli means Tiger and ankam means fight. Most of the techniques employed in sword and shield fight are derived from wild animal fights.The sword and shield symbolize Lord Siva and Goddess Shakthi respectively.
